Practical Reservoir Petrophysical Evaluation and Static Modelling with Software

Practical Reservoir Petrophysical Evaluation and Static Modelling with Software

About the Course

The first part of this course deals with petrophysical analysis of reservoirs, well by well. The outputs of this first part will serve as inputs for the second part of the course. Also, the first part will involve some elements of theory and then followed by practical with Techlog. Here, the emphasis is placed on the fact that petrophysics is important in all aspects of the petroleum business. Also, principles, applications, and integration of petrophysical information for reservoir description will be discussed in depth through the combination of class discussion and exercises/workshops. To be learnt also by the participants is how to conduct competent quick-look evaluations. The participants will be taught how to integrate petrophysical information with other data sources and this will improve participants’ ability to assess technical risk when examining hydrocarbon opportunities.

The second part of the course will involve reservoir 3D static modelling. Part of the inputs will be coming from first part of the course which is the petrophysical evaluations. The tool will be petrel. In this part, the participants will learn the process and procedures of 3D static reservoir modelling. The general principles will be discussed irrespective of the software to be used. However, the practical session will be demonstrated with PETREL. The best way to manage oil and gas reservoir well is to understand the reservoir. To understand the reservoirs, it must be modelled. The importance of environment of deposition will be emphasised.

Course Objectives

The participants will learn the flow from petrophysical evaluation to static modelling and finally to volumetric. The participants will appreciate how important the input data like petrophysics are when it comes to static modelling and volumetric. Doing this two-week practical training, the participants will see a better picture of what reservoir evaluation and management all is about.
